A loving gesture

It is your love that will save you, and love can be expressed in all the seemingly unimportant gestures you make every day. So make the effort to always find something new to do, in the knowledge that each little gesture you make with diligence, sincerity and love is like a creature of light that is always with you. Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

Expressing our true, divine nature

You should understand that you are divinities. Yes, divinities, and you live on a higher plane free of limitations, shadows and darkness, sorrow and suffering, in the midst of abundance and joy. Do you know what prevents you from manifesting the splendour of those higher regions here below? Your personality- in other words, your lower nature. Your personality is too unadaptable, too self-centred to capture the subtle messages from those regions… like a radio that cannot pick up all the stations. The waves and vibrations released by Cosmic Intelligence in the higher spheres are swift as lightning, and the matter of the personality is too dense, too hard of hearing to vibrate in tune with them, and so it cannot seize divine messages. They flash by without making an impression and we continue to live in ignorance, far from knowing or experiencing the wonderful joy of our higher Being. The gentle art of meditation

In today’s Daily Meditation the master gives some advice on how to succeed at meditation by being gentle and diplomatic with our thoughts. It relates to the passage I posted a few days ago on why he recommends meditation as a spiritual practice: Meditation is a difficult exercise, as it requires great control over our thoughts. But thought is rebellious; it tends to go free and wander, and if you try to stop it abruptly your brain will seize up. As the brain is such a sensitive instrument, you have to start it up very gently, just as you warm up the engine in a car for a few moments before moving off. So, when you want to meditate, do not try to control your thoughts straight away. They will rebel and rear up, and you will gain nothing from them. Begin by getting yourself into a peaceful, harmonious state of mind; then slowly and gently lead your thoughts in the direction you want them to go. After a while they will be at your …

Why meditate?

The master Omraam gave many original lectures on meditation and contemplation which I have found really useful in my own spiritual practice. The first one I am sharing focuses on the basic question of why we need to meditate if we want to make progress in our spiritual life: There are many different degrees to meditation. And we must understand that meditation is more than reflection. To meditate means to focus on a subject,  a quality or virtue, on something that you are either lacking, or wish to develop. But you will not have any desire to develop a particular quality or virtue such as  kindness, generosity, peace, light, wisdom or love, (there are so many qualities and virtues), unless you cherish a high ideal. But what is this high ideal? It’s to want to become something better than ordinary- by which I mean purer, more perfect, more intelligent, more powerful, in fact, to become a model, an example. Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov If you do not have this ideal of becoming an example, of perfecting …

Only light disperses darkness: the power of prayer

Today I want to post some extracts as a spiritual response to the terrorist acts in Paris this week. So here is something from the master describing  methods to overcome the power of negative forces in the world. As he said, ‘Only light has the power to overcome darkness’. The first extract is about sending S O S signals to attract the aid of luminous spirits. We can do that through prayer and by focusing the mind on thoughts of light: The world is like a vast ocean in the dark of night, and you are like so many little boats drifting rudderless on that ocean. If you want luminous spirits from on high to come and rescue you, you have to light your lanterns and send up flares to let them know who you are. In other words you have to radiate light so that the sublime spirits can find you in the midst of darkness. The Gospels tell us to pray, and to pray is to send light signals up to heaven. The invisible …

Uniting heart, mind and will

People are capable of overcoming all their inner conflicts and divisions if they have a divine ideal and cling to it come what may. If they nourish and cherish a sublime ideal, it will incarnate and materialize within them and take possession of them until it fills their whole being and they become this ideal. People without an ideal fritter away their energies and waste their lives. If you are not getting the results you hoped for it is because you have not yet fully committed the three faculties of heart, mind and will; you have not yet yoked them together in harmony… Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov The New Year  Today I thought I would post some more from the brochure The New Year. In this extract the master talks about how we need to harness our faculties of heart, mind and willpower and get them to work together towards the fulfillment of all our goals, both material and spiritual – but especially our spiritual ideal. I have added a couple of photos of the master to this post because …

The future

Misfortunes are the past, not the future. Before the future can present itself – that is to say, your true future as sons and daughters of God – it is waiting for you to finish drawing lessons from the past. This future is on the move: since you are creating it, you are already beginning to live it. Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
