The Joys of Wisdom

“A sage is someone who has succeeded in ridding himself of the useless burdens of life. He has gone beyond his internal regions of clouds and dust, that is, the astral and mental planes (selfish, common feelings and thoughts) and risen to the regions of eternal sunshine. And his only wish is to pass on to others the wisdom he has won at the cost of great effort. But it takes so long to get people to understand what we ourselves have understood! So the only thing a sage can communicate immediately is the joy he derives from this wisdom, a joy that overflows from his soul and which we could also call love. And those who receive this joy and love are made to reflect because of it. Let them at least ask themselves in what way they too could attain the same state of consciousness.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov Daily Meditations 29th September 2015

Autumn and the Festival of St Michael

“The Archangel Mikhael presides over the Autumn Equinox which occurs on September 22nd. On this day, the sun inaugurates a new cycle as it enters Libra. Fruit and nuts fall from the trees and decompose, leaving their empty husks on the ground; grains are sorted and consumed or stored before being sown to ensure a new cycle of growth. But this process of decomposition and sorting is not something that concerns only the world of plants; it also concerns human beings. Just as the fruit separates from the tree and the seed or stone separates from the fruit, so the soul is separated from the body, spiritually if not physically. The body is an envelope, the wrapping, and the soul is the seed that is planted above, in the soil of heaven. Human beings are fruit and when they are ripe they must not fall to the ground like the fruits and seeds of earth but soar away to heaven. Autumn is the season for that separation of which Hermes Trismegistus speaks: ‘You shall separate …

Love, peace and traffic holdups

How often have we seen that, when placed in identical situations, people do not all react in the same way! If there is a traffic holdup on the road, for example, how do the drivers react? One gets annoyed, hoots and shouts abuse at other drivers, another flicks through a newspaper or listens to the radio, while another one chats with a passenger or kisses them if it’s their loved one. But finally, one of them decides to take advantage of this pause to go within, link to heaven and send love and light to all the others who are waiting too, and even to all beings in the world. This case is certainly much rarer, but it is the kind of adaptation you have to learn to make if you are to become master of all situations. Try it: use your power of reasoning, and while others are getting annoyed or worried and poisoning the life of those around them, you instead become stronger and enriched. And thanks to these experiences you will then …

Despair and regeneration -the healing forces of nature

Today’s Daily Meditation from Omraam Mikhael touches on something I have experienced many times in my life: how the small, seemingly insignificant, things we notice in the natural world can have a profound affect on our inner life- even healing states of depression and despair: “A friend told me that one day when he was feeling in despair, he went walking in the countryside. At one point he sat down on a rock, and there in a tiny crack he saw a few blades of grass. He looked at them for a long time, wondering how they had been able to grow in such conditions. And suddenly, while he was looking at them something in him came back to life. He did not understand how the sight of these few blades of grass had been able to tear him away from his despair. It was not really the grass that had done anything; it was that while he was looking at it he had brought about this change in his soul without realizing it. We …

When you meditate….strive high

“When you meditate, strive to go very high inside yourself and then to remain that high for as long as possible. Going high and remaining there means never failing to be noble, fair and generous, which also implies knowing how to ‘come down’ to help your fellow brothers and sisters. Though you are living and working on the earth among human beings, you should avoid coming down inside yourself, that is to say, avoid giving way to lower tendencies or taking part in selfish, dishonest endeavours. Remaining up high does not mean imitating people who are haughty, unapproachable and hard, people who would think it demeaning to extend a hand to others who are weaker, less gifted, less well educated or of lower social rank. It is quite the opposite. And once again we must use the example of the sun. The sun comes down to us, and through its rays it warms us, brings us light, communicates its life to us and sends us its messages. But the sun itself remains forever on high.” …

Meditation, contemplation, concentration

“Meditation is an activity of the mind- an attempt to deepen your understanding of spiritual truths. Contemplation, on the other hand, is an activity of the heart or soul- you dwell on an image, a quality or a virtue in order to rejoice in its light and beauty and be in communion with it. And on a higher level still, there is the magical activity of identification by which the will and the spirit identify with the creator in order to create. Some days you will feel inclined to work with the mind: to think and search and ponder, this is meditation. On other days, when you are in a state of hamony, peace and bliss, you may feel drawn to contemplation. And then there are other days when your will manifests itself more strongly and you feel the need to do something, to create, to set in motion invisible forces. You have all certainly experienced these three states even though you may not have recognised them or been able to define them. But you need …

One love

‘Everyone thinks they know what it is they love about any particular man or woman, whether it’s beauty, charm or moral or intellectual qualities. But the reality is that each person loves only the One, the Creator, who made beings the way they are. Make no mistake: it is him you love through others. The more the Divine expresses itself in them as kindness, wisdom, beauty, intelligence or strength, the more you love them. So you will never be able to find fulfilment and perfect joy if you do not seek a vaster, richer reality in the being you love. You will very quickly see there is not much to him or her, and you will become bored and disappointed. So then you will go off in search of another love but again very quickly encounter the same boredom, the same disappointment. And no matter how much effort you make, it won’t change a thing: so long as you do not try to see the Divine in the person you love, you will not know …
